The objective of this exercise was to find an outdoor situation where there would be many people and activities to photograph, where the people had not been asked in advance. I was very apprehensive before I started this exercise due to recent reports in the media regarding the way some photographers have been treated by certain over zealous officials.
The weather has been dull and miserable and I felt that it would be hard to get decent photographs of people outside. Luckily the best snowfall in years arrived.
Since enrolling on the OCA I always have a digital camera of some kind to hand. I was using a small digital SLR and lens to try and remain inconspicuous. I photographed people walking to work or possibly to retreive their abandoned cars, in the snow. I also took most of the shots as people passed me by so I didn’t get many facial expressions. Overall I was very happy with these photos. My favourite is of the pedestrian in the herring bone coat as you can see the sense of urgency in her walk as she passes me by. Next time I hope to be more confident in myself and capture more expressions.
